Wedding Shopping Guide: Hong Kong
Hong Kong is the ultimate shopping destination for brides to be in search of a bargain or luxe label purchase. The choice & variety on offer is phenomenal, so we decided to visit this incredible city to narrow down our top bridal shopping spots!
First stop & our top rated destination: Causeway Bay. This shopping area is jam packed with little boutiques, big department stores & our favourite, Laforet.
Laforet (take exit C at the MTR), is a 2 floor hidden gem of mini boutiques boasting unique creations from independent designers at very reasonable prices. This is our top spot to pick up clutch bags, heels & accessories for you & your bridesmaids, check out our favourite pieces we found.
Top tip: take at least 500HKD in cash with you, & bargain down the price tag by up to 20% . Try not to spend more than 3 hours here, as you should then head towards Time Square Department store…….9 floors of retail therapy heaven! If you are after the best label offer, head to Lane Crawford on the first floor, this is the equivalent of Selfridges & with the Exchange rate, expect to make a saving, hooray!
Now if you are planning to make anything for your wedding…favours, invites, décor, you cannot leave Hong Kong without visiting the Sham Shui Po Market. The market starts right outside the Sham Shui Po MTR station, it is a bit of a maze but the best thing to do is ask where the ribbon and trim shops are. Here is a snapshot from some of the stores we came across.
It was very difficult to leave as there was just so much choice on offer with all the ribbons, sequins & beaded trims! Most stores take card payments but keep up to 500 HKD just in case as it is a pain to try and find an ATM.
If you have the budget saved then one must visit the A-Z of luxe brands that live in Harbour City…Burberry, Chloe, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, the list is endless! This area is also a favourite spot for wedding photos, & since it is the lucky year of the dragon, we saw up to 15 weddings in one Saturday. Never did I expect to see so many brides queuing to have their photos taken, quiet a site!
After all the shopping, make sure you head to one of the many boutique hotels for a high tea, try the W Hotel, Mira, Icon or The Ritz & take inspiration for your dessert menu from the quirky treats on offer.
Once recharged, bargain hunters should head straight to the night markets to pick up gifts for the groomsmen, bridesmaids & parents. There is a variety of bags, pashminas, watches, gizmos & gadgets……be prepared to haggle to get the best prices & take cash with you. The best markets we visited were the Ladies market (Mong Kok station) & Temple Street Market (Jordan station), they open at 7pm & close at about 11pm.
As the day draws to a close, head over to the Felix bar in the Peninsula Hotel to enjoy a delicious cocktail whilst watching the 8pm light show with the best view of Hong Kong. Make sure to take a sneak peak of the Crystal room!
The last pearl of wisdom before you head to HK is to leave space in your luggage! Happy Shopping x
